Ararimu Downs

Ararimu Regional Downs Case Study

This project illustrates perfectly how proactive planting can mitigate the impact of development.

Client: Ararimu Downs Limited

Expertise: Environmental Restoration

Plants: 22ha of stream riparian planting, 168,000 plants along 3.7km of the Ararimu stream

Project Timeline: 2018

Partners: Evergreen Landcare

This private land was granted resource consent to subdivide the land into an additional 8 titles subject to the planting of almost 22 hectares of stream riparian planting. Our experience working with councils and other government bodies made Kauri Park the perfect partner to ensure the project ran smoothly.

Ecosystem – individuals playing their part.

It has been shown that the popularity of lifestyle blocks in the region can enhance local ecosystems by increasing tree and bush cover, resulting in an increase in bird life and reduction of erosion. Easier to manage than expanses of farmland, it is hoped that landowners of these smaller plots will continue to do their part in maintaining New Zealand’s land and waterways.

Ecovitalism – the perfect balance.

As ecovitalists we take our mission to improve the world around us very seriously and we embrace all opportunities with enthusiasm. As experts not only in horticulture, but also in eco-legislation we are well equipped to optimise the benefits for both the environment and our clients.

This planting consisted of an impressive 168,000 plants along 3.7km of the Ararimu Stream and was so successful that it resulted in efficient council sign-off and a client who was able to start subdividing and pre-selling two years ahead of schedule. Meanwhile, the farm now has an excellent clean water system - the lifeblood of every ecosystem.
