Northern Diversion

Stream diversion and riparian planting on the edge of a working quarry, Drury.

Client: Stevenson Group

Expertise: Environmental Restoration

Plants: 1 km of waterway

Project Timeline: 2020

Partners: Boffa Miskell

The Northern Diversion project involved riparian planting along a diverted stream on the edge of the Stevenson quarry in Drury.

The site sits between an active quarry and an adjacent estuary, with the diverted stream connecting to existing native vegetated corridors. Planting was established along approximately 1km of waterway, with species eco-sourced to match the site conditions.

Kauri Park Projects was responsible for site preparation, planting, and ongoing maintenance along the waterway corridor. Woody weeds cleared from the site were mulched back onto the site, retaining organic matter ahead of planting. Bark was also laid to prevent future weeds and retain moisture around establishing plants. Frequent maintenance visits and pest control was carried out throughout the establishment period.

This groundwork created the ideal conditions for rapid canopy establishment across the site, with the project reaching practical completion in under two years.
